Is Uber set to make a big e-commerce delivery announcement?
US-based IT media have quoted “informed sources” as saying Uber is set to make a big announcement within the next month or so regarding e-commerce delivery partnerships with “dozens” of leading retailers and fashion brands. As previously reported, Uber has already started making a play in the delivery market with its UberRush messenger and UberEats meal delivery service – and it has let it be known that it is working on a merchant programme.
The IT media have quoted “people familiar with the rollout” as saying that the service will start in New York City in partnership with “luxury brands” famous for their flagship stores in Manhattan, and it will then extend to San Francisco.
The media reports also claimed that Uber has been in talks with BigCommerce and Shopify in order to connect with smaller, niche fashion retailers.
None of this speculation, however, has been confirmed by Uber, Shopify or BigCommerce.
The reports added that the plan would probably be for the retailers to add an Uber same-day delivery option on their websites/online shopfronts – and this option would only show up for online shoppers in the right zip codes.
