Irish postal strike ends

An Post has announced that normal postal services have resumed in the Republic Ireland, following an agreement by subcontractor IO Systems and the Communications Workers’ Union (CWU) “to seek resolution of their dispute without further disruption of mail services”. In a statement issued yesterday evening (5 October), An Post said: “Customers may resume posting letters and parcels tomorrow, Tuesday, 6th October. Normal working will resume this evening in mails processing centres and any mail on hands will be prioritised for delivery.”

An Post added that Department of Social Protection cheque payments by mail and Passport Express services will resume immediately, but cautioned that it would “take a number of days to restore the normal quality of service levels for mail”.
