Sidecar stops delivery and ride-hailing services

San Francisco-based Sidecar has stopped operating its delivery and ride-hailing services. The company was one of the early pioneers in the on-demand delivery and ride-hailing app sector, but it has been overtaken by its much bigger rivals Uber and Lyft.

In a blog entry posted on ww.medium.com on 29 December, Co-founders Sunil Paul and Jahan Khanna announced that they were ending their ride and delivery service so they could “work on strategic alternatives and lay the groundwork for the next big thing”.

The company’s ride and delivery operations came to the end of the road at 14:00 Pacific Time on New Year’s Even (31 December).

Sidecar’s blog entry prompted one rather telling response: “Sad day for Sidecar but can’t say this is a big surprise. Sidecar always had the best technology and been very innovative but the product was always too complex. Too many bells and whistles when all passengers really wanted was a ride from A to B at the push of a button.”
