Amazon raises minimum spend for free shipping

Amazon.com has raised the minimum spend required from non-Prime members to qualify for free shipping to $49. For years, the minimum spend required was $25, which was then raised to $35 in 2013 – and now it has gone up another $14. For book orders, however, the free shipping threshold remains at $25.

Amazon has not issued an official statement about upping the free shipping threshold – but the move is expected to make its Prime service (annual US subscription $99) even more attractive.
