DPD formally announces new Moscow hub
DPD has formally announced the opening its new Domodedovo hub. In a statement posted on its website yesterday (3 March), DPD said that the new facility – its second hub in the Moscow region – was formally opened on 9 February.
The new hub will have a handling capacity of around 3,000 parcels an hour. As previously reported, the Domodedovo site has a sorting line equipped with BEUMER Rota-Sorter technology, which sort items across a wide range of shapes, sizes and weights on a single line.
According to DPD: “By the end of 2016, DPD in Russia plans to perform further equipping of the south hub in Domodedovo, and also continue developing the North hub in Mitino and other Moscow depots. The target investments of these projects are about 500 thousand euros.”
Andrey Mayorov, CEO of DPD in Russia, added: “Launch of a new sorting line is in line with the company strategy aimed at development of the DPD infrastructure in Russia. More than 80% of all company’s shipments are processed in the Moscow region, and this entire volume needs to be sorted. Opening of the south hub with the up-to-date equipment will allow to shorten time for parcel processing and expedite delivery for our customers.”
