Amazon reportedly planning two-hour delivery service in Berlin

Amazon is planning to launch a two-hour delivery service in Berlin, according to local sources. Articles published by the German newspaper Welt and Reuters report that Amazon is “repurposing” a facility on Berlin’s Kurfuerstendamm to be used as a warehouse.

The reports also state that deliveries would start in May and would “at first be carried out by courier firms already active in the German capital”. The implication is that Amazon may be looking to build up its own delivery capabilities.

Amazon has not confirmed the reports about the Berlin service.

In January, German media also reported that Amazon was looking to build up its own delivery capabilities in Munich , with a view to setting up distribution centres close to a number of big German cities. However, these January reports also quoted an Amazon manager as saying that the internet retailer was looking to generate more “flexibility”, and its intention was to complement the services provided by its distribution partners.
