Reformed PSA to be dubbed Japan Post

The public postal corporation to replace the Postal Services Agency in April is to be unofficially called Japan Post, sources said Friday.

The corporation will use a new logo in addition to ?, which the agency has used for more than 100 years. The agency is considering accepting proposals for the new logo from the public, the sources said.

In addition, the agency is to issue new uniforms and business cards featuring the new logo to its staffers in time for the changeover.

The state-run corporation to be run in private-sector management style will take over the agency’s mail delivery, postal savings and postal life insurance services. The agency hopes the new logo and uniforms will be good for the corporation’s image and boost employees’ motivation in their new jobs.

To save costs, the agency will not employ a famous designer to create the uniform, but will seek the opinions of staff members before making a final decision. The uniforms will be navy blue.

Many young staff members have complained that the style of the current uniforms, which were introduced in 1988, is too severe.
