Posten Norge reports growing international business

Posten Norge has reported that its results for the first half (H1) of 2016 show that group revenues as a whole are holding steady – and an increasing share of the revenue is now coming from activities outside Norway. In a statement sent to Post&Parcel today (30 August), Posten Norge said that its H1 2016 operating revenues were NOK12,406m. The adjusted result (EBITE) amounted to NOK221m, a decline of NOK93m compared with the first half-year of 2015.

The Group’s operations outside Norway had operating revenues of NOK4,706m in the first half-year of 2016, which was NOK473m – or 11.2 % – higher than in the corresponding period of 2015. Revenues outside Norway accounted for 37.9 % of the Group’s total revenue, compared to 34.1 % in 2015.

This trend is likely to continue, as future collaboration between Bring and Danske Fragtmænd will focus on further improving distribution of international goods in and out of Denmark.

Posten Norge added: “Private e-commerce continued to grow. The Group’s total e-commerce volume increased by 11 % in the first six months of this year. E-commerce from abroad had the strongest growth.”

More parcels, less post is the story for postal operators everywhere, including Posten Norgen. “In the first half-year, the volume of addressed mail decreased by 10.6 % in Norway as a result of increased digitalisation,” said Posten Norge. “The most significant decline was in bank and financing, which declined by 21 %, and the public-sector which declined by 13 %. In the first half-year of 2016, the result for A-mail delivered overnight was 87.4 %, which is 2.4 percentage points better than the licence requirement.”
