Parcel and courier firms may request North American Free Trade Agreement panel if transport law is approved

If the new Federal Transport Law (FLT) is approved foreign parcel services and courier firms could request that the government set up a controversy-resolution panel under the framework of the North American Free Trade Agreement (Nafta), acknowledged the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Transport Commission, Eugenio Orestes Pérez Cruz. This was confirmed by Ernesto Romero president of the National Association of Courier Companies, which includes Fedex, UPS and DHL.Orestes Pérez Cruz said that foreign companies felt that they were affected by certain elements of the new transport bill. “They have told us that they will make use of the legal instruments within their reach to make sure they are not affected by the norms of the new legislation,” said the deputy. He said that the bill was not aimed at affecting foreign companies in the courier business.”What we are looking for is a law that will really be useful,” said Orestes Pérez Cruz. This article has been translated by Internet Securities, Inc. as a service to its customers.
