McDonald’s expanding delivery coverage in US

McDonald’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Steve Easterbrook, announced yesterday (31 May) that “McDelivery” on the UberEATS app has expanded to an additional 1,000 U.S. restaurants this week and will grow to reach 3,500 U.S. restaurants by the end of June. Speaking at the Bernstein Strategic Decisions Conference in New York, Easterbrook said the service is now available at more than 2,000 restaurants around the country.

The new locations which came online this week include: the New York Metro Area (with 300 participating restaurants), Fresno (28), Seattle (92), Denver (98), Dallas (217), Houston (115), San Antonio (49) and Washington D.C. (121). McDelivery is also available from restaurants in Atlanta (143), Chicago (270), Columbus (59), Las Vegas (76), Los Angeles (374), Miami (164), Orlando (54), Phoenix (144), San Diego (83) and Tampa (29).

The company said that, with nearly 75% of the population living within three miles of a McDonald’s in their five largest markets, there is “significant potential with delivery”.

Easterbrook commented: “We are encouraged by early results in the U.S where delivery is resonating well, particularly with our younger customers.

“Nearly 60% of orders are being placed during the evening or late night, providing our franchisees an opportunity to grow dayparts. And because speed matters, we’re getting food from order inception to the customer’s door in less than 30 minutes, on average.”
