Hitachi elects Exel to handle logistics in Spain

Exel will manage the project from its centre in Pinto, Madrid, supporting its wider pan-European activities for Hitachi.

Exel has been selected by Hitachi, for the development of information systems, electronic components and industrial equipment, to manage logistics activities for products within its air-conditioning and consumer goods lines in Spain.

Specifically, Exel has been given the responsibility for managing the logistics activities required to market these two Hitachi product lines in Spain. Firstly, utilising the Group’s transportation and warehousing infrastructure and supporting Hitachi’s logistics requirements across Europe, Exel transports merchandise to Spain from its consolidation centres in England and The Netherlands. Exel then stores merchandise in Pinto (Madrid), where it manages stock, prepares orders and arranges the final distribution to over 250 customers throughout Spain.

In Spain, Exel’s partnership with Hitachi began with the management of air-conditioning products. This initial collaboration resulted in a high level of satisfaction, and Hitachi decided to extend its partnership by contracting out the logistics management of its consumer products line, including televisions, cameras and DVDs. In total, Exel anticipates that it will store some 2,500 pallets and manage over 78,000 units of merchandise per annum for the customer.
