Employment practices

The UK House of Commons’ Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee has been questioning representatives from Uber, Hermes and Deliveroo on their employment practices. In a hearing taking place today (10 October), the Committee took evidence from: Andrew Byrne, Head of Public Policy, Uber; Hugo Martin, Director of Legal Affairs, Hermes; and Dan Warne, Managing Director UK and Ireland, Deliveroo.

The Committee was reviewing the companies’ practices in the light of the recent report entitled Good Work: the Taylor Review of Modern Working Practices.

Tomorrow, the BEIS Committee will hold a joint session with the Works and Pensions Committee, during which they will take evidence from the report’s author, Matthew Taylor.

As previously reported, the BEIS and the Works and Pensions Committees have been focusing on how people engaged in the “gig economy” can have better access to rights and benefits.
