Deutsche Post and Verdi agree on trend setting employment package until 2008

Result allows sustainable cost structure improvement
Deutsche Post AG and Verdi agreed on Saturday morning on a trend setting package of measures. On the one hand the company will not issue any compulsory redundancies until 31/03/2008 and guarantees deliveries using Deutsche Post personnel until 31/12/2006, except in 600 parcel districts. On the other hand Deutsche Post can sustainably improve its cost structures and in doing so clearly expand its competitive position in the express sector.

The agreement includes amongst others

extending joint delivery, i. e.: the combined delivery of mail and parcels by mail deliverers

voluntarily extending the working week to forty-eight hours for deliveries

foregoing two paid days off.

The basis for the agreement is to continue to have a working week of the current average of 38.5 hours until 31/12/2006.

‘With this agreement we have come up with a unique employment package for Germany and have at the same time made considerable improvements to our cost structures. In doing so we offer our employees job security for the next years. The attained flexibility is of benefit to our customers and also strengthens our position in the parcel market,’ said Dr Klaus Zumwinkel, Chairman of the Board of Management at Deutsche Post World Net.
