Amazon reportedly looking for bigger Whole Foods locations to support delivery plans

Amazon is reportedly on the look-out for bigger retail locations in US cities which can serve both as Whole Foods bricks and mortar grocery stores and also urban distribution centres from which it can make home deliveries to online shoppers.

According to a report published today (22 March) by Bloomberg, Whole Foods is also working with Regency Centers (one of its main landlords) on a project to convert some of the parking areas in its existing stores into facilities where delivery vehicles can be loaded up with online orders.

The plan, according to the Bloomberg article, is that these urban store-cum-depot centres will complement Amazon’s large out-of-town warehouses. The urban centres will bring more distribution capacity closer to the consumer, helping to support the express delivery services like Amazon Prime Now.
