Changes to Selectapost and PO boxes from March 1 2004

Royal Mail is making changes to its Selectapost and PO boxes services from March 1 2004.

Selectapost
The new Selectapost product will offer:
• Sortation of up to 6,000 items a day for up to 25 selections
• Sortation of both standard sizes and larger letters.
• Packets sorted to a ‘residue’ category.

A ‘residue’ selection will be designated, from within the 25 selections, for items not bearing the necessary identifier, ensuring security for these items.
Customers whose needs are not met by this specification will be able to negotiate a bespoke solution with Royal Mail.

There will be a £100 annual charge for each selection. Additional to this, £16 will be charged per 1,000 letters and £24 per 1,000 larger letters.

PO boxes
Multiple PO box customers will receive all PO Box mail amalgamated together rather than sorted by PO Box number.

For example, if the customer has four PO Boxes the mail will be presented as one selection rather than sorted to the four individual PO Box numbers.
Around 3,000 multiple PO Box customers will be affected.

For those customers who continue to require their mail sorted to a number of selections, this will be available through the Selectapost service.

The changes to the services are to prevent overlap between them and to link prices more closely to Royal Mail’s cost of providing them.

Selectapost and multiple PO Box customers are being informed of the changes by letter or personally through their account manager.
