Investment for self-driving delivery vehicle startup

Boxbot, a California-based startup focused on self-driving delivery vehicles, has raised $7.5m in a seed funding round led by Artiman Ventures – with participation from Toyota AI Ventures.

Founded in 2016 by engineers from Tesla and Uber, Boxbot says that  it is “working to address the last-mile problem in logistics through a combination of robotics and autonomous systems”.

In a statement issued on Monday (4 June), Boxbot said this latest investment takes its total funding so far to $9m.

Jim Adler, managing director of Toyota AI Ventures, commented: “Boxbot is our first investment in the autonomous delivery space, and while we can’t go into much detail as the company is still a little stealthy, we can say we’re impressed with their business model and solution to a global problem that McKinsey values at more than $80bn.”
