PostEurop launches Green Fleet Forum

Friday, February 12th, 2010

PostEurop and a number of European postal operators gathered in Brussels to kick-off the PostEurop Green Fleet Forum aimed at seeking climate-neutral solutions.

Transportation is the operational backbone for operators who are under constant pressure to perform at optimum. Today, the postal industry is faced with many challenges including the growing cost of fossil fuels and an increasing need for climate-neutral solutions. Extensive research and testing on postal vehicles powered by hybrid, electrical or hydrogen technology brings us closer to these solutions.

Following the success of the New Electric Postman Helper (NEPH) project which has successfully accompanied the development and the prototyping of the e-byke and e-caddy for postmen, PostEurop launched the European-wide Green Fleet Forum which brings Environment and Operations experts together with representatives from the European Commission, research institutes, suppliers and manufacturers to further initiate and facilitate mutual sharing of best practices, knowledge exchange and opportunity to meet representatives from the supply industry within this field. Participants aim at giving an overview of green transportation initiatives in the area of hybrid, electrical and hydrogen vehicles within their organisation.

“Over the years, PostEurop and its members have been very committed to seeking a climate-neutral solution in all aspects of postal activities. The Green Fleet Forum is the beginning of a dialogue between European Public Operators and key stakeholders to specifically address the transportation aspect of our operations. We hope that this initiative will spark a great amount of common interest to further green our fleets,” said Dr. Botond Szebeny, PostEurop secretary general.

Operators at the launch included Royal Mail, P&T Luxembourg, TNT, Itella, CTT Correios de Portugal, Deutsche Post DHL, Groupe La Poste, Poste Italiane, La Poste- De Post (Belgium), Posten Norge and Magyar Posta, as well as industry stakeholders.
