Hermes enhances UK hub

Hermes is extending its national infrastructure with the opening of two depots in Dunstable and Perth. The new facilities replace existing sites within Hermes’ 18-strong depot network and enable the company to better service customer needs in London and Scotland.

The Dunstable depot has been relocated to a new, larger unit at Woodside Industrial Estate. The facility will provide 46,000 square feet of warehousing space, with almost 40% added capacity over the previous site.

Meanwhile, the current Dundee depot has transferred from West Gourdie Industrial Estate to a warehouse development at North Muirton Industrial Estate in Perth.

The 15,000 square foot facility will increase warehousing capacity by more than 35% and is better located for the provision of timely deliveries into the Highlands and the far north of Scotland.

Carole Woodhead, CEO of Hermes in the UK, said: “These latest investments are part of an ongoing review of our depot network to ensure that the UK infrastructure possesses the appropriate capacity and capability to support our growth strategy.

“We are committed to enhancing our delivery offering over the next 12 months to improve the service we provide to our customers, so it essential that we are best-placed to handle these changes to our business.”

The new depots will retain all existing staff to protect jobs and ensure the necessary expertise is kept within the company.
