Chowdhury to head DHL operations in Bangladesh

DHL Global Forwarding has appointed Nooruddin Chowdhury as new country head in Bangladesh. Chowdhury, a 20-year veteran of the logistics and shipping industry, will lead the next phase of a $10m investment to “enhance logistic capabilities in the fast-growing South Asian country”.

DHL Global Forwarding Bangladesh was formed last year as a joint-venture between DHL and its long-standing partner Trade Clippers Cargo Limited.

A DHL Fashion and Apparel Center of Excellence was recently launched in Dhaka to capitalise on this fast-growing logistics sector, worth an estimated $3.9bn per annum in South Asia.

Amadou Diallo, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding, Africa & South Asia Pacific, said, “Nooruddin brings to DHL Global Forwarding a wealth of experience in the logistics industry. He has the knowledge, the experience and the vision to take us on the journey we mapped out in 2009.

“In his capacity, he will help reach our goal of growing the organisation and setting the benchmark for supply chain logistics in South Asia, a benchmark that will increase both our customers’ and our employees’ satisfaction.”

Chowdhury’s brief is to leverage the strengths of the new DHL Global Forwarding Bangladesh.

The new DHL Global Forwarding is the result of two years of investment by DHL in employee training, information system upgrades, enhancement and expansion of infrastructure, and the integration of global forwarding expertise and supply chain capabilities to introduce a unique range of new services for businesses in Bangladesh, the company said.

Chowdhury said: “DHL Global Forwarding’s global experience in supply chain logistics allied to 25-years of local operations in Bangladesh and to my own track record in operations, sales and customer service, will allow DHL Global Forwarding Bangladesh to offer customers unparalleled access to tailored solutions that help them optimise their supply chains – whatever industry they are in.”

DHL Global Forwarding Bangladesh currently employs over 250 staff and operates 700,000 square feet of warehouse space under DHL’s global warehouse management system, an IT platform that provides customers with better cargo information and service efficiencies.

Chowdhury, who takes up his position immediately, will report to Thomas Tieber, CEO, South Asia, DHL Global Forwarding.

Tieber announced that former managing director of DHL Global Forwarding Bangladesh and Trade Clippers Cargo Limited, Mustaque Ahmed, will remain as a board director of the joint-venture.

Tieber said: “We thank Mustaque for his invaluable contributions in shaping the company and taking it to where it is today and for his continued support for the development of our organisation in the future.”
