Amazon Prime Now comes to Tokyo

Amazon has launched its Prime Now fast delivery service in parts of central Tokyo. The service is debuting in eight wards in the city and is set to expand further soon.

With Tokyo onboard, Amazon Prime Now is available in 23 cities worldwide.

The Prime Now service offers Prime members the option of either: free delivery with a choice of two-hour, same-day delivery slots; or delivery within one hour of ordering for an extra charge. In Tokyo, the cost  for the one-hour service is ¥890 and the Prime annual membership fee is ¥3,900, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

As previously reported, Rakuten – Amazon’s principal  e-commerce rival in Japan – launched its own fast delivery service in central Tokyo in August.
