Palletways goes Irish
Europe’s fastest-growing palletised freight network has created a dedicated network for the whole of Ireland.
Palletways Ireland will be based on Palletways’UK model, which saw 40percent growth last year.
It will be run by Montgomery Distribution, a member of the Palletways operation in the UK.
Montgomery has a 1,500 strong vehicle fleet and employs 1,700 people across Ireland and mainland UK.
Craig Hibbert, group development director of Palletways UK, said: “The launch of Palletways Ireland is part of our strategy to create the first pan-European pallet network.” The overnight distribution network will be centred on two hubs in Portadown and Roscrea, serving Northern Ireland and the republic of Ireland respectively, with regional sub-hubs in Cork, Galway, Donegal and Dublin.
The network will also provide next day, 48 hour and 72 hour delivery services to England, Wales and Scotland, including the Scottish islands.
Gary Diamond, director and general manager at Palletways Ireland, said Montgomery last year derived 20% of its total turnover from the Palletways UK network.
He expected the trend to continue for companies to look to reduce inventory in the supply chain and distribute smaller volume of goods more frequently and just-in-time.
“We will have the potential to greatly expand our business by opening up new commercial opportunities for Irish companies through the delivery coverage we can provide for small consignments of goods, ” he said.
