Double number of pallets- in theory
Business Post says that UK Pallets would gain an additional 174,000 pallets a month if its parcels customers started using recently acquired pallet network. The figure is based on a survey of Business Post’s customers and would more than double throughout UK Pallets.
But network MD Paul Sanders says the figure is unachievable in practice and that such a sharp increase in volume isn’t wanted.
‘We want to become the undisputed number one in terms of quality and service achieved through our IT offering and there isn’t an undisputed number one in that area at the moment,’ he says. ‘Clients expect the same level of service, whether it’s pallets or parcels.
‘The networks which deliver quality IT systems and continue to invest will be the best.’
The network launches UK Pallets On-line, a single database which contains all the information about every consignment handled, in January. It will allow partners to book collections, input consignment data, record delivery status and compile performance reports.
Saunders says the system will do away with unreliable faxing, cut out misroutes caused by illegible handwritten labels and reduce telephone calls by 50%.
‘But we don’t want to lose the personal contact with our partners,’ he says.
Real tme delivery data from cab to the client is scheduled to go live by the end of next year.
‘Partners will be offered training opportunities that regional hauliers might not otherwise have access to,’ says Saunders.
