Renault to trial electric LCV for urban deliveries

Car manufacturer Renault is trialling a new all-electric light commercial vehicle called EZ-Flex. A range of companies throughout Europe will use the e-van for two years allowing Renault to collect data on the challenges of last-mile delivery.

The company says: “Renault EZ-FLEX is an experimental electric and connected LCV that is both compact and agile. It was created and designed for sustainable mobility and delivery efficiency in urban areas.”

In its current set-up, the EZ-FLEX offers a range of 150 km. Space has been designed with crowded urban areas in mind so that the nimble e-van is small enough to enable access to car parks. It still features a 3m3 load capacity, which Renault considers “exceptional for its dimensions” of 3.86 m x 1.65 m x 1.88 metres.

More features designed with drivers in mind include wide access to the driver’s seat, an ergonomic loading height, or a large central dashboard and a smartphone-controlled HMI. Configurations are adaptable “to meet the different needs of the professionals by whom the vehicle will be used,” says Renault.

Renault says: “The volume of transported goods in the world is expected to quadruple by 2050. Within this context, at the end of 2018, Renault presented its vision of the future of urban delivery in 2030 with the electric, autonomous and connected Renault EZ-PRO concept car. With EZ-FLEX, an electric and connected vehicle, Renault continues to prepare for the future by exploring new uses of last-mile delivery.”
