Talks resume on rescue plan for Irish An Post

Talks on a recovery plan for loss-making An Post have resumed at the Labour Relations Commission.

A range of issues, including collection and delivery, are due to be tackled over the next month under talks chairman Tom Pomphrett.

Resumption of the talks on a recovery plan for the company was delayed by the row over clearing the mail backlog following the recent postal dispute.

Last year the financially-strapped company lost 46m, and operating losses of 30m are expected this year. Communications Minister Dermot Ahern told the Dail earlier this month that An Post needed to restructure and return to a firm financial footing if it was tobe a “strong player”.

An Post wants to cut staffing levels in its letter post division by 1,350.
