Ver.di threatens nationwide postal strike on eve of Deutsche Post wage round

Deutsche Post AG workers will go on a nationwide strike unless the German postal company agrees terms in the next round of wage negotiations starting tomorrow, union ver.di warned. Warning strikes staged over the past several weeks have shown that workers are prepared to walk out, a union spokesman said. ‘Our people are angry. We’ve organised everything in preparation (for a strike). It can be put into action very quickly,’ the spokesman warned. Ver.di is seeking a 4 pct wage increase for 160,000 Deutsche Post employees covered under the union’s previous salary agreement. Deutsche Post has not made them a formal offer after two rounds of wage negotiations.
