Russian Post to introduce automated mail sorting in 2006
State-owned Russian Post company plans to launch the first automated sorting facility in 2006, the company’s press service said in a statement Thursday. It will be based in the Moscow Region.
An agreement to build the facility has been reached with the local authorities, however the precise location has not been chosen yet.
The new facility will shorten mail delivery time in Moscow and the Moscow Region to two days.
A second facility is to open in the Leningrad Region in spring 2007.
At present manual mail and package sorting prevail throughout Russia.
The Russian Post plans to build a total of 25 such sorting facilities across Russia.
