Courier services drive Belgian economy
The courier and express industry invested
€2.13 billion in Belgium over the past two years creating some 15,000 jobs, according to a study commissioned by the Belgian Courier Association (BCA) and carried out by professional services firm KPMG.
41% of the sector’s revenues go back to the Belgian state in the form of taxes, social security and other payments.
The companies surveyed said they frequently used courier services: 50% said they used express services daily, and 25% said they relied on 24-hour delivery at least once a week.
Companies that typically rely on express services are active in information technology, the manufacturing of industrial machinery or car parts or in the pharma-ceuticals sector.
Demand for courier services has been growing strongly over the past five despite the economic downturn, the study found.
When asked the hypothetical question of what they were to do should Belgium have no express courier services, 10% of the companies surveyed said they would consider relocating outside of Belgium.
