BECK AND CALL DELIVERS FOR AMTRAK
Beck &Call, the company offering a timed home delivery service for retailers and consumers in south- west London, is now handling home deliveries for parcels carrier Amtrak within its operational area. “It’s a difficult area for us in some ways,” Amtrak managing director Jonathan Smith told e.logistics magazine. “This arrangement solves our problem, and at the same time pushes more volume through the Beck & Call system.”
Beck & Call director Benedict Ely says there is a two-way benefit “We gain because we now have a ready- made channel for despatching product outbound to the rest of the country.” He adds that national delivery is not a key part of the Beck & Call proposition, “but there are times when it’s useful to be able to offer it.”
Beck & Call have expanded steadily since it was created three years ago, and now has nearly 30 staff at larger premises in Fulham. It has also extended its operating area northwards, taking in districts such as Hampstead, Highgate, Kentish Town and Holloway. Ely says the company hopes to open a second depot this year, probably in the Kentish Town area, to push its reach further into the northern suburbs.
Customers include Virgin Wines (Which also uses Amtrak for deliveries in other parts of the country), as well as John Armit, Nicholas, La Vigeronne and Casevalue.com.
