FedEx seeks to add more flights to China

FedEx Corp. said Friday it has applied to add 18 new weekly cargo flights to China under a new Sino-US aviation agreement, including six to a new destination, Qingdao, a city of East China’s Shandong Province. FedEx now operates 11 flights a week between the United States and the Chinese cities of Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen, but it wants to more than double its operations to the mainland, Asia Pacific President David L. Cunningham said. The Memphis, Tenn.-based express delivery company wants to add six weekly flights each to Shanghai and Shenzhen, in addition to the new services to Qingdao, Cunningham said in a telephone conference call. China and the United States recently signed a new aviation deal that gradually will raise the number of cargo and passenger flights between the two nations to 249 per week, up from the current 54.
