FedEx Freight Expands Operations in Metro Chicago and Midwest

FedEx Freight, a leading provider of regional and interregional less-than-truckload (LTL) services in the U.S. and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE:FDX), has opened new, expanded service centers in Aurora, Ill., and Fremont, Ind. The carrier has also increased its capacity at five other locations.
"Ongoing investment in our infrastructure has always been a critical component of our success," said Douglas G. Duncan, president and CEO, FedEx Freight. "Our goal is to stay ahead of the curve by anticipating customer demand for our service and proactively expanding or opening new facilities to add the necessary capacity to our network. These strategically-placed facilities allow us to more effectively handle additional freight from our customers, which has been spurred by a recovering economy and increasing implementation of fast-cycle logistics."
The newly-constructed FedEx Freight service center in Aurora, located on Butterfield Road, significantly expands the company's capacity in metro Chicago. The facility has nearly four times the capacity of the previous center–increasing the number of dock doors from 28 to 101. The 61,680-square-foot center includes a four-bay maintenance shop and an on-site fuel station.
Likewise, the recently-built facility on North Baker Road in Fremont, which functions as a hub location that transfers freight to other service centers, was added to the service center network to accommodate FedEx Freight's growing capacity in the Midwest–including Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. The new 120-door center includes a maintenance shop as well as on-site fuel on a 43-acre lot.
In addition to providing additional capacity in Chicago and the Midwest, the new Aurora and Fremont facilities have enabled FedEx Freight to reduce transit times by one day in several lanes to and from Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin as well as to and from western Iowa to Kansas City. FedEx Freight serves customers in various industries in the Midwest, including retail and manufacturing.
FedEx Freight has also recently opened or expanded other service centers around the country, including:

— Rochester, N.Y. – relocated previous center to a 30-door facility in Henrietta.
— South Brunswick, N.J. – moved from a 52-door facility in North Brunswick to a 108-door center in Monmouth Junction.
— Harrisburg, Pa. – relocated the existing 26-door center to an 86-door facility with an additional 103,000 square feet of dock space.
— Allentown, Pa. – added a 25-door facility to handle extra capacity previously routed to the Pocono Summit service center.
— Roseburg, Ore. – opened a new 11-door facility to help accommodate additional freight volume in the Eugene area.
