Pall-Ex Is Best For European Distribution!

Pall-Ex, the Number One pallet network, has been named by the Institute of Transport Management as European Transport and Distribution Specialist 2004. The recognition comes as Pall-Ex continues to expand its European operations and following the recent launch of Pall-Ex Europe, the pan-European service which offers coverage five nights per week, making it the most comprehensive pan-European distribution service in the pallet sector.

The ITM selected Pall-Ex from a wide range of competitors in the pallet distribution market. “The company stood out because of its proactive approach to the European delivery market,” said Patrick Sheedy, Media & PR Director of the ITM and Chairman of its Transport and Distribution Committee. “This award is a true testament to the years of hard work put in by all at Pall-Ex and I have no doubt that this progress will continue for many years to come.”

Hilary Devey, managing director of Pall-Ex, said: “I am truly delighted on behalf of my team to receive this accolade from our industry. “Europe was the logical next step in our growth and we have been gradually building our network across the continent, carefully selecting the right partnerships for our members. It’s a great pleasure to us all that the ITM has placed such a high value on our activities.”

The ITM carries out an extensive search and section process. This research showed that since its inception in 1996, Pall-Ex has developed from a 29-member operation to one that has delivered over six million pallets throughout the UK and Europe. Last year Pall-Ex relocated to a new purpose-built hub, unique in the sector, incorporating a 200,000 sq ft transhipment warehouse, 355,000 sq ft secure lorry park and 25,000 sq ft of office space. With access to nearly 6,000 vehicles and five million sq ft of warehousing through its members, the company has recently added further warehousing space as it moves into the logistics sector for key clients.

These features, matched with “the outstanding range of services provided, a very comprehensive distribution network and continuous growth,” were factors which the awards committee found compelling. The ITM’s official criteria for consideration in the final decision-making process were: Customer service, Distribution Network, Management expertise, Investment and Future Potential.

Unrivalled in quality, the 90-strong Pall-Ex membership network includes some of the top hauliers in the country. In addition, Pall-Ex is achieving considerable success with its nominated carrier schemes for large corporate customers including some of the country’s best-known supermarket chains, department stores and DIY stores. It is also developing strategies in factory gate pricing, and expanding working partnerships with blue-chip multiple retailers.

With year on year growth of 35%, Pall-Ex turned its attentions to the developing demand for European distribution. In 2003 the company established a series of strategic partnerships with some of the best networks in Europe, covering Germany, Scandinavia and the Iberian Peninsula. Working with Düsseldorf-based Transco Süd in Germany, Combifragt Group A/S, an international transport and logistics company based in Denmark, and Trans European Transport SA of Spain, Pall-Ex already has regular and successful services running to the continent.

Then in August 2004 the company launched its Pall-Ex Europe brand to provide pan-European pallet distribution with an unprecedented reach across the continent. Pall-Ex Europe offers delivery of _, _ and full pallets to any destination in Europe using the same pallet definitions as the UK under a defined service schedule. Operated in a strategic alliance with Hellmann World-wide Logistics, the service will run five nights per week to all European destinations, making it the most comprehensive pan-European distribution service in the pallet sector.

“We wanted to provide truly pan-European coverage to match our UK nationwide service,” commented Hilary Devey. “Our Pall-Ex Europe distribution service will run five nights a week to any location across Europe. No-one else can match that.”
