4 AIRLINES SEEK TO PARTNER POS INDONESIA FOR PARCEL SERVICE

JAKARTA, Feb 24 Asia Pulse – Four airline companies are
competing to become a business partner of state postal service
firm PT Pos Indonesia (Posindo) for post parcel services
throughout the country.
Posindo president Alinafiah expressed hope that by the
middle of the year the strategic partner could be determined
and to start working together in parcel services in the
country.
The four airlines are Garuda Indonesia, Merpati Nusantara
Airlines, and two Malaysian airlines MAS and Pelangi Air.
“Presently we are in the selection process. Certainly the
selected airline company will be the one that can offer the
expected services at competitive price,” he said.
Presently post parcel business is flourishing reaching 153%.
Percentage of income contribution from parcel services
continues to increase, he said.
However, Posindo is facing contraints in terms of speed in
the distribution flow of parcels, particularly to eastern parts
of Indonesia, due to absence of cooperation arrengements with
airlines.
In order to be able to compete with other companies, Posindo
must procure its own aircraft to support its parcel service
business.
The company earned revenue of Rp1.62 trillion (US$216
million) in 1999 and posted a net profit of Rp67 billion.
The major revenue contribution of the company comes
from
business letters, parcels, and money orders.
