Lufthansa Cargo and Deutsche Post into closer partnership

Lufthansa Cargo and Deutsche Post are stepping up their cooperation. Last Wednesday, the two logistics services companies signed an accord in Frankfurt on closer cooperation in international airmail.
The cooperation agreement envisages utilisation of Lufthansa Cargo capacities for the GLOBALMATCH mail distribution service, which Deutsche Post offers to other postal operators. GLOBALMATCH (Global Mail Transportation through Consolidation Hubs) consolidates airmail shipments from diverse postal companies for bulk transportation so as to ensure maximum efficiency in the use of available transport capacities. “Combining the strengths of both partners will allow us in future to offer other postal administrations more cost-efficient and faster air transport into and out of Frankfurt as well as additional services,” said Klaus Knappik, Head of the Divisional Board Mail International at Deutsche Post World Net.
Cooperation between the two partners will strengthen Frankfurt as a logistics base. Frankfurt occupies a pivotal position at the centre of the worldwide distribution and transport network of the Deutsche Post World Net group as well as of the global airfreight route network operated by Lufthansa Cargo.
Jean-Peter Jansen, Chairman Lufthansa Cargo AG: “Cooperation in GLOBALMATCH services will generate additional transport volumes and help us appreciably improve capacity utilisation.”
Initially, the GLOBALMATCH service will be offer in the Lufthansa Cargo network at Buenos Aires, Dubai, Malta, Athens and London. Plans are afoot to extend the service to further destinations both out of and into Frankfurt.

Lufthansa, Deutsche Post extend agreement
JOURNAL OF COMMERCE, Web, p WP 10-13-2004
By THE JOURNAL OF COMMERCE ONLINE

Lufthansa’s cargo division and mail and logistics giant Deutsche Post agreed to deepen their cooperation to provide air transport services to postal companies outside Germany. The contract will involve using Lufthansa Cargo’s air-freight capacity to help Deutsche Post offer global mail transport via Lufthansa’s Frankfurt hub, the companies said in a joint statement on Tuesday.

“We will generate additional transport volumes and will therefore be able to improve our capacity use significantly,” Lufthansa Cargo chief Jean-Peter Jansen said.
Deutsche Post is expanding its mail business outside Germany to reduce the company’s dependence on the postal market in Europe’s biggest economy.
Lufthansa Cargo meanwhile is trying to improve productivity to try to return to profit levels of 2000, before a series of crises hit the aviation industry.
