Swiss Post acquires Alsace-based SAT
Swiss Post International (SPI), the international unit of Swiss Post, has acquired
Société d’Affretement et de Transit (SAT). The company, based in Huningue,
Alsace, offers a wide range of services in the fields of import export business, EU
customs clearance, fiscal representation, international forwarding and storage. By
acquiring the SAT Group, SPI can expand its service range and offer comprehensive
solutions for cross-border goods traffic: from international forwarding and
dispatch to all-round customs services and delivery.
Swiss Post International (SPI) has acquired Société d’Affrêtement et de Transit (SAT) with
retroactive effect to 1 November 2004. The company will be restructured and will comprise
Swiss Post SAT Holding AG in Berne, SAT SA and STI SARL in Huningue, France, as well as
TransEuro GmbH in Weil am Rhein, Germany. This Group provides all services related to
customs clearance and fiscal representation, plus advice and handling of imports and
exports of plants and animals in respect of species protection legislation (CITES handling). It
also offers international goods transport and storage.
The SAT Group, established by Gérard Kannengieser in 1978, now has a staff of 25. With
the SAT acquisition, SPI will be able to offer its customers a comprehensive range of
services for import, export and EU customs clearance. SPI is thus reinforcing its position in
cross-border goods traffic. SPI plans to expand SAT into a centre of excellence for customs
services, VAT tax issues and fiscal representation solutions for its subsidiaries.

Today, more than 700 employees work for the international arm of Swiss Post, which was
founded in 1996. With its international strategy, Swiss Post aims to strengthen its position
in the Swiss market through links with worldwide networks and to build up a solid

distribution network on international markets. Together with GLS (General Logistics
Systems) SPI offers a range of services tailored to the needs of business customers for B2B
goods dispatch.
SPI has its own subsidiaries in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, the UK, Belgium,
the Netherlands and the USA. Its core business is handling international mailings for
business customers. Swiss Post International also works together with franchise partners in
Spain, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Sweden. In March, SPI also entered into allround
distribution partnerships with the postal organizations in Slovenia, Hungary and
Slovakia.
In 2003, SPI generated sales of 900 million Swiss francs and an operating result of 31
million Swiss francs. This year it expects to achieve substantial sales and earnings growth.
