Tuffnells unwraps offer of jobs

Express courier service Tuffnells has launched a recruitment drive after relocating to a new premises in Staffordshire.

The firm wants to fill various posts to expand its new GBP250,000 operation on Beacon Business Park in Stafford.

Tuffnells has relocated from a small satellite depot in Fradswell to the new site, formerly owned by the RAF.

Paul Harrison, general manager of the depot, said the relocation is a major boost for the area and the company which employs 1,500 people at its 25 depots in the UK and Ireland.

He said: “The initial operation consisted of a converted commercial garage with minimal office space and 10 staff.

“The rural location and restrictions on operating hours were not creating an ideal situation to expand the business.”

The new depot began its 24-hour operation this week and has now extended its parcel delivery service to cover the TF (Telford) and WS (Walsall) postal code areas as well as its service to all ST post codes. The new base at the Beacon Business Park has 20 vehicles and employs 27 people.

Mr Harrison explained that the company is looking to recruit more people to take the workforce to about 40 during the next few months.

He said: “It is quite a turn-around in just 12 months. With excellent facilities and transportation links the newly opened depot will now also service a wider area.”

Tuffnells delivers about 1,500 parcels a day but is anticipating a 15 per cent increase in the run-up to Christmas.

The firm has vacancies for porters, customer service staff, sales people and drivers.

Supervisory roles are also on offer as well as full and part-time positions.

Mr Harrison said: “We would be interested to hear from anyone with relevant experience in the parcel industry who believes they can make a difference.

“The company is keen to employ people who live within the local area and looking for long term career prospects.

“With a company policy to promote from within, opportunities are always available for the right calibre of person.”

Mr Harrision believes that increased investment into people and processes has led to the company’s success.

He added: “We are recognised as the fastest growing Express Parcel Carrier within the industry. The success of the company is attributed to providing a cost-effective professional delivery service both nationally and internationally.

“Major investments in both people and computerised dispatch management systems enable Tuffnells Parcels Express to provide quality driven solutions for any distribution requirement, large or small.

“The future for Tuffnells Parcels Express is looking very promising.”
