Palletforce targets Scottish market

PalletFORCE is planning to shake up the Scottish pallet distribution market with a substantial increase in its presence across the country, including a new depot in Glasgow and two well-known new members.

Existing member Wm Armstrong is opening a new depot near Glasgow and has been joined in the network by two new members Gordon Leslie Distribution, based near Paisley, and JBT, located in Aberdeen and Inverness, with additional depots on the Shetland and Orkney islands. Coverage in Scotland is completed by one of PalletFORCE’s founder members Glenhire Express, based in Fife.

Wm Armstrong’s new depot is located at Uddingston, south of Glasgow at the top of the M74 and is set to provide a strong presence for PalletFORCE in central Scotland. The company will also continue to operate from its head office at Longtown, north of Carlisle.

Jennifer Whyberd, managing director of Wm Armstrong said, “The new depot is ideally situated to create a strong central base for PalletFORCE and will enable us to operate more efficiently so that we can offer greater flexibility for our customers.” Wm Armstrong is currently recruiting staff for the new depot which will be up and running by late Spring.

Gordon Leslie Distribution was previously a member of Fortec and has switched to PalletFORCE thanks to the network’s strong commitment to quality and service and the benefits of shareholder membership. The switch to PalletFORCE will also enable the company to expand its operation and offer customers a much broader service.

JBT is joining a palletised distribution network for the first time in line with its own expansion plans. The company chose PalletFORCE due to its experience of working with several existing members which provided
first-hand knowledge of the membership quality and dynamic growth of the operation.

Mick Scarlett, chief executive of PalletFORCE commented “We recognise that our presence in Scotland has not been as strong as in the rest of the UK and it is now time to put this right. Glenhire continues to play a key role, whilst Wm Armstrong’s new depot will give us a much stronger profile in the Glasgow area, and in JBT and Gordon Leslie, we have two of Scotland’s best known names representing us. This is a major development which will create tremendous opportunities for the network.”
