DHL set to invest USD70 mln in Incheon Airport
Global logistics and express delivery leader DHL is considering investing US$70 million to build a cargo terminal and warehouse at Incheon International Airport, the main gateway to South Korea, government officials said Tuesday.
DHL’s chief executive Frank Appel will deliver such an investment offer to Minister Choo Byung-jik on Wednesday, according to the officials at the Ministry of Construction and Transportation.
DHL’s holding company Deutsche Post World Net is set to invest $20 million for its cargo terminal and $50 million for its air cargo warehouse at the airport, the officials said.
South Korea is seeking to develop Incheon International Airport, about 60 kilometers west of Seoul, as a logistics hub in Northeast Asia.
Appel is to come to South Korea to attend the CEO summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Busan, the nation’s second-largest city, on Thursday. The CEO summit, or APEC business leaders meeting, will bring together 600 CEOs from around the globe.
DHL Korea, a joint venture between DHL International Ltd. and South Korea’s Ilyang Group, currently has 37 offices and six warehouses in South Korea.
