Deutsche Post plans acquisitions to expand in Central Europe

Deutsche Post AG plans to make additional acquisitions in Central Europe in order to expand its business in the rapidly growing region, Claude Begle, managing director of DHL Express Central Europe, told the Financial Times Deutschland.

‘We are determined to rapidly expand our Central European operations,’ Begle told the newspaper.

Begle, who also serves as the chief operating officer for DHL Express Germany, declined to name any specific acquisitions targets.

However, financial industry sources said Deutsche Post is close to acquiring two more parcel delivery firms.

Yesterday it announced the acquisition of Prague-based PPL CZ for an undisclosed amount.

PPL is the Czech Republic’s market leader in express parcel delivery services and has annual sales of about 18 mln eur.

‘The express delivery markets in the Central and Eastern European regions have the second largest growth potential after China,’ Begle told the newspaper.

The executive said Deutsche Post is most interested in expanding in EU accession countries, but that Russia, Ukraine, Turkey and Kazakhstan are also of interest.
