Post Danmark eyes 20,000 subscribers for new mail service in 2006

National postal service Post Danmark A/S expects to register some 20,000 subscribers for its new pay-for service for mail delivery before 1000 local time, deputy director Soeren Ravn said on January 3, 2006.

The new service will be launched on February 6, 2006 and will cost 2,250 Danish crowns ($358/301.5 euro) a year.

The move is oriented mainly towards corporate customers, but with 1,000 subscribers registered by the beginning of January 2006 it has not met the expectations.

Post Danmark expects to register some 50,000 subscribers for the service by February 2008, and thus generate about 100 mln crowns ($15.9 mln/13.4 mln euro), Ravn said.

(Editor’s note: The planned new subscription fee was strongly criticised by the Danish Federation of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, because it will affect smaller companies, as the Danish News Digest reported.

Post Danmark will also extend the letter and parcel delivery time, regarding its remaining customers, to 1430 local time from 1300 local time at present. The new delivery schedule will be introduced on January 1, 2006.

Post Danmark plans to introduce additional fees for other services in the near future, the company’s managing director, Helge Israelsen, said.)
