Belgian Post Office to close 36 units

Belgian postal services company De Post/La Poste plans to close 36 post offices by summer 2006, it was reported on February 1, 2006.

Most of the 36 offices will be closed by April 2006, and 12 in the southern region of Wallonn by summer.

De Post/La Poste expects about 100 post offices to be closed by the end of 2006.

The company plans to compensate for the closures by opening about 130 PostPunten sales counters at banks, supermarkets and news stands in 2006.
