Belgian La Poste/De Post to close 45 post offices by June 2006

Belgian postal service company an La Poste/De Post will close 45 post offices before June 2006, local news site 7 sur 7 reported on February 21, 2006.

Of the total, 23 will be immediately replaced by a PostPunten sales counter, three will be replaced by a brand new post office and another 19 will be excluded from the sales network for being obsolete or for security reasons.

The new management contract of La Poste provides for the closure of over 100 post offices in 2006.

(Editor’s note: La Poste/De Post will increase the number of its PostPunten sales counters installed at supermarkets, newspaper retail stores, banks and train stations to some 130 in 2006, the Belgian News Digest said on December 16, 2005. Parallel to the installation of the PostPunten, some post offices will be merged, so the total number of sales points will remain at some 1,300.)
