DHL Colombia reveals details on expansion

DHL Colombia, the Colombian unit of global carrier and package delivery company DHL Express, part of the German postal services operator Deutsche Post, announced on February 22, 2006 details on its expansion strategy in Colombia in 2006.

DHL Colombia’s strategy is concentrated on the expansion of its chain and the diversification and improvement of its services.

DHL Colombia plans to open five branches in Bogota, Barranquilla, Medellin and Cali. The company already operates 17 offices.

DHL Colombia’s sales rose 8.0 pct year-on-year in 2005 and the company aims to increase its sales by 17 pct year-on-year in 2006.

The delivery of packages abroad accounted for 40 pct of the company’s sales in 2005, rounding 4.0 million kg, up 3.4 pct year-on-year. The company’s imports accounted for 30 pct of its sales.
