De Post – La Poste wins major EU publications office contract
The Office for Official Publications of the European Communities in Luxembourg is the EU’s publisher. The Publications Office has just selected De Post-La Poste’s international service Belgian Post International as carrier for the majority of its printed matter. De Post-La Poste has beaten the largest European postal operators that took part in the international call for tenders.
As of 15 June 2006 Belgian Post International* will dispatch all EU publications weighing over 50 grams – including the Official Journal of the European Union – from its Zaventem international hub.
The Publications Office’s main motive in awarding the contract was the high quality standards the Belgian Post’s international service fulfils, which earned Belgian Post International the International Postal Corporation’s Certificate of Excellence as early as 2004.
The two-year contract (renewable once) can be estimated at 9 million euros a year. At (estimated) eight million pieces annually, Belgian Post International has been awarded the largest volume of all mail flows that the European Union generates in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg.
De Post-La Poste is very satisfied with this contract, which is a major recognition of the quality and reliability of Belgian post deliveries.
* Belgian Post International (BPI) is the business unit of De Post-La Poste for inbound and outbound international letter mail, handling over 320 million pieces a year. BPI has 270 employees.
