Switzerland bans Post AG outsourcing parcel business

Swiss Federal Justice Ministry has banned local post carrier Post AG’s plans for outsourcing its parcel business to a joint-stock company in which it has a stake, the company said on April 27, 2006.

According to the decision, Post AG can offer universal postal services only from its parent company and not from subsidiaries.

Outside the parent company, Post AG is allowed only partial operations such as co-operation with agencies or the delegation of transport services on third parties.

After the decision, Post AG said it would abandon its plans to transfer the parcel delivery business into a joint-stock company.

The company will seek alternative ways to operate its parcel delivery, express mail and goods logistics activities.

Post AG (www.post.ch) planned to offer a full package of logistics services under the PostLogistics brand from the beginning of 2007.

The restructuring was going to affect more than a thousand employees.

(Alternative names: Die Schweizerische Post, La Poste Suisse, La Posta Svizzera.)
