DHL Exel Supply Chain has won a £75 million five-year contract to manage Canon’s UK logistics operations including warehouse management, technical services and specialist distribution.
(5/9/2006)
DHL Exel Supply Chain will manage the receipt and storage of Canon products, pick and pack orders as well as pre-delivery value-add preparation of imaging machines.
The company will also manage the equipment set-up, training and removal of packaging material upon delivery, and will also provide spare parts fulfilment and reverse logistics services.
The contract will be based at a 240,000 sq.ft. facility in Bardon, Leicestershire. Over the next year, DHL Exel Supply Chain will work with Canon to develop a technical centre on site. DHL is planning to expand the operation into a multi-user, integrated service centre similar to its other facilities in the UK.
Peter Brown, Canon UK’s finance director, stated: “Canon is an extremely customer-focused organisation and the timely delivery of products to customers is critical to our business. This contract gives us the assurance that our logistics operations are being handled in the best possible way, providing a streamlined delivery of products to market.”
