Parceline named top 100 company

Parceline, the Smethwick based express delivery company, has been named as one of the Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to work for, a list widely acknowledged as a roll call of excellence for UK plc.

691 organisations were considered for the prestigious accolade and Parceline came 99th, following an independent selection process that included interviews comprising 70 questions with 500 randomly selected employees. Interviewees were asked to rate the company against eight measures of job satisfaction including leadership, pay and conditions, work-life balance, pride in the organisation and community involvement.

Of the Parceline employees interviewed:

76% feel they have a secure future at the company
74% value the help that training provides
74% feel fully involved in the company
73% believe their managers care about them
73% would strongly recommend the organisation to others as an employer

In the past three years the firm, which has 4,500 employees nationwide, has also cut absenteeism by 33% whilst staff turnover has been reduced by 11%.

The Sunday Times praises Parceline for ‘empowering first-line managers and their teams’ in the past year. Initiatives include ‘Stars awards’, which can be traded in for gifts and an ideas scheme where employees are offered the opportunity to shape the organisation. The company also actively encourages and rewards high performers through its ‘driver of the year award’ and its ‘whatever it takes’ scheme.

Chief Executive Officer Kay Phillips said: “Parceline is the only transport company to be included in this select list and one of just six from the Birmingham area. I am very proud of this achievement which recognises the passion and expertise of our people, qualities that are vital in a service industry. Our high scores also demonstrate the positive impact made by training and development initiatives and the work undertaken to involve our people in business and community projects.”
