UPS announces new appointments for Turkey and Spain/Portugal

UPS has announced that it has appointed Turkey Director of Operations Engin Kolat as the Turkey Country Manager and Romina Lorenzo as the new country manager of the company in Spain and Portugal, where she will be responsible for operations and business development and strategy.

Kim Ruymbeke, President of UPS East Europe said, “Turkey is one of the most crucial markets for UPS in Europe. Under Engin’s leadership, we will strive to help UPS grow by providing the highest level of service to businesses of all scales and expanding into new markets via e-commerce.”

While Operations Director for Turkey, Kolat was part of the team that oversaw a multiyear investment plan, doubling the operational capacity of UPS Turkey and launching a direct flight path between Istanbul and UPS’s European Air Hub in Cologne.

Engin Kolat, UPS Turkey Country Manager said, “More than 99% of the businesses in Turkey consist of SMEs, and 58.4% of the exports in Turkey are made by SMEs. There are numerous e-commerce opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs. At UPS, we have increased our investments in your facilities in Turkey and in the network that connects our country with the rest of the world to facilitate businesses’ access to these opportunities and unlock their potential.”

Engin Kolat joined UPS as an expert in revenue management and pricing expert in 2013 after graduating from the Department of Economics at Viana Economy University. Previously, he served as the director of industrial engineering, regional operations manager, country marketing manager, and operations director at UPS.

Daniel Carrera, president of UPS Europe said: “Romina’s career and profile will further strengthen UPS’s position in the logistics and transportation sector in Spain and Portugal. We continue to invest in our European network to help small and medium enterprises to grow through exports and are delighted to be able to count on Romina’s strategic vision to move forward in achieving this goal in the Spanish and Portuguese markets,” he added.

Romina, of Argentine origin, assumes this new position after more than 16 years of experience at UPS, working in the area of finance and accounting in European cities such as Brussels or Milan. Her most recent position so far has been Director of Finance and Accounting at UPS Italy.

“It is an honour to assume this position and I’m excited to contribute to helping our clients develop their business and face the challenge of exporting, which constitutes an important engine of economic growth in Spain and Portugal”, said Lorenzo. “I am also excited to continue to drive forward the agenda for promoting inclusivity and female empowerment within the transport and logistics sector,” she stated.

UPS is committed to female leadership both within the organization, with 46% of women occupying a management position and a third in senior management, as well as outside supporting a diversity and inclusion program and women entrepreneurs.

The new country manager of UPS in Spain and Portugal will lead initiatives aligned with this objective, such as the “Exporting Women” program that UPS will soon launch in Spain in order to help women entrepreneurs, manufacturers and cooperative associations to grow their businesses and expand to new and profitable markets.
