DHL Global Mail enhances residential parcel service offering to Latin America

DHL Global Mail made improvements to its residential postal parcel delivery services to Latin America in response to dramatic increases in e-commerce and mail order shipping to the region.

The Plantation, FL-based company said it has reduced delivery times and enhanced customer service capabilities by offering improved “track and trace” features.

The track and trace capabilities allow e-commerce and other online retailers to check the status of their parcel via DHL Global Mail’s Web site.

The product also includes customs clearance and returns notification. Standard delivery times for dutiable and non-dutiable packets and parcels up to 55 pounds (25 kilograms) range from seven to nine days to Mexico, Brazil and Argentina. Other countries in the region have a seven to twelve day transit time expectation from the Miami gateway.

DHL Global Mail said it has established several priority markets that would require enhanced delivery and operational systems to meet e-commerce customers’ needs, and said Latin America is one because it is becoming one of the most prevalent shipping destinations for U.S. merchandise.

DHL said it upgraded the service in response to on-line and traditional mail order companies that needed greater reliability and accountability in the area.

DHL Global Mail also said its international parcel product accommodates an increasing demand for a medium-priced track and trace residential parcel solution to destinations outside the United States. In 2005, DHL Global Mail launched a similar residential parcel service to Japan and eight additional Asian countries.
