TNT Logistics extends UK distribution contract with Akzo Nobel

TNT Logistics, a unit of Dutch mail and express deliveries group TNT NV, has extended its UK distribution contract with Akzo Nobel Decorative Coatings and delivered a new vehicle fleet, TNT Logistics said on June 7, 2006.

TNT Logistics and parent Dutch chemical group Akzo Nobel NV have been cooperating for 22 years.

The current deal extends TNT Logistics’ northern UK distribution contract for additional three years and its southern distribution contract until 2010.

The fleet comprises now more than 40 vehicles.

Under the renewed deal, TNT Logistics will deliver 1,100 tonnes of products weekly from Akzo Nobel Decorative Coatings’ manufacturing plants in Hull and Darwen, and the distribution centre in Warrington to about 3,000 delivery points. Akzo Nobel’s customers include retail multiples, the building trade and franchised stores.

Paragon route planning and the introduction of TNT Logistics’ Transport Management System are also part of the renewed contract and are already contributing to the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the operation.

In addition, TNT Logistics (www.tntlogistics.com) has established a dedicated 25,000 sq ft cross-dock facility at Abingdon, close to Oxford, the UK, for the operation.

(Note: one sq ft = 0.093 sq m)
