ABX Logistics Belgian parcels business set for separation

The Belgian parcels business of ABX Logistics may be retained by Belgian Railways and sold to a separate company instead of being sold as part of the overall disposal of ABX Logistics Worldwide to British finance group 3i, Belgian media reported.

Following an MoU signed last year, 3i is expected to complete the acquisition of ABX Logistics Worldwide for an estimated €80 million within the next couple of months. The former heavily loss-making freight logistics group, burdened by large-scale debts, has downsized and restructured in recent years, and now makes a small operating profit.

The Belgian newspaper De Tijd reported, however, that ABX Logistics Belgium, which is mostly a domestic parcels transport company, would be separated out of the deal and retained by Belgian Railways. Belgian Post could be interested in the parcels operator, the newspaper said.
